Catalina Scuba Trek

Green River Whitewater Rafting Trek

“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” – St. Augustine

Covid-19 Update:  Due to continued Covid-19 travel precautions, we have made modifications to our Treks for 2021.  This year we will be providing four different and exciting Treks.  Treks will include Joshua Tree Camping Trek in March 2021; Moab Camping Trek in April 2021; Catalina Scuba Trek in May 2021; and River Rafting Trek in August 2021.  Click on School Calendar to see specific dates.

At Mountain Springs Preparatory Academy, we believe that travel is the great teacher. Our outstanding, formal classroom education is complimented by regular trips outside of the classroom to study in nature’s classroom. We call these education-led, field trips Knowledge Treks!

These special trips take Mountain Springs students from hiking in Joshua Tree National Park, to canyoneering in Moab to river rafting in Desolation Canyon to scuba diving in the kelp preserves off the coast of Catalina Island. With Bryce Canyon and Zion's National Parks in our backyard, the students can experience the wonders of nature and science on a regular basis. Students study history and government first hand on our annual Washington D.C. trek and experience the arts and culture in the countries of Europe.

Students describe these treks as powerful, fun and life-changing. They live and experience what they are studying rather than just reading about it. Because many of our students are “hands-on” learners, this unique approach works well for them. For all of our students, these special treks provide memories and learning experiences they will never forget.

Once per year, Mountain Springs has designed an option to go on a large international trip. Due to Covid-19 travel precautions, it is likely that this trip will not occur until either the later fall of 2021 or spring of 2022.  The purpose of this trip is to help our students get a sense of their place in the larger world and experience the life and culture of those in other countries. This trip exposes students to new cultures, foods and languages. These trips broaden their world and help them see what is possible when they make good decisions with their lives. Over and over again, we have seen students come back from these trips with a collection of life-changing memories. Below is a list of some of the places we have visited in the last five years on our international trips:
